Tony & Kim Huval

Tony and Kim worked together at the same company collectively for more than 30 years, Kim in Human Resources and Tony in Environmental, Health and Safety. After leaving the company they were ready for the next chapter in their lives and knew the next chapter would be much more than just a career. Both wanted the opportunity to share the knowledge and life skills learned over the years and after some searching, their thoughts returned to helping seniors and their families and by chance they were introduced to CarePatrol and immediately knew that they had the answer.

As a Senior Executive in Environmental, Health and Safety, Tony, a US Army veteran, spent his entire career ensuring that employees were safe in their job, not by just enforcing safe practices but working with clients in making jobsites a safe place to work. Tony’s experiences made him an expert at recognizing safety and security issues and quickly finding resolutions. Tony has lived in Texas for 30 years and the Greater Houston Area for 10 years.

Kim worked as the Director of Staffing and Recruiting dealing with Human Resources. Kim’s responsibilities required her to think fast, identify and solve problems, direct employees, and place potential candidates in a position best suited for them and the company.  Kim’s real appreciation of her position was the one on one experiences she had with employees both in good times and bad. Talking with employees and often times their family members and being able to assist them was what kept her in the Staffing/Human Resources for so many years.  Kim was born and raised in the Deer Park / Pasadena area of Houston.

Tony and Kim have 2 daughters, 4 sons (one US Navy Veteran and one US Army Ranger Veteran) and 4 granddaughters.  When not spending time with kids and grandkids, you will find Tony and Kim outside landscaping, gardening or just enjoying the time to reflect on the day’s events.  Tony and Kim love hiking, kayaking, sky diving, water rafting and taking on the adventures life throws their way.

My wife developed non-Alzheimer’s dementia at the early age 54.  She was a Registered Nurse, healthy and a proud, self-reliant individual.  Once her condition progressed, to the point it was evident that she could no longer work, nor drive, I cared for her at home with the assistance of a care giver.  Her condition continued to deteriorate until it was no longer safe for her.  It was evident that she needed to be in a controlled environment, in addition to requiring more assistance with activities of daily living and other executive function.

Seeking help from family and friends on ideas for a path forward, it was recommended to contact a Senior Referral Service for assistance.  While reluctant, I did contact one of the large services and was given some recommendations for numerous places to visit.  I was naive as to what these types of facilities were, how they operated and let alone how to select one over the other.

After visiting numerous facilities I settled on one.  It was a large corporation owned facility and this facility was adequate for about 2 years and for the most part provided good care.  However, there was a turning point where the longer-term staff began to leave, there was turnover of care managers and supervisors and the quality of care quickly degraded.  Coincidently, so did my wife’s condition.  I learned about memory care, assisted living and the industry during that time.

I moved my wife from facility to facility, because we didn’t fit the model of being elderly and immobile.  I had literally reached a major point of despair over finding a facility to care for my wife.  I was referred to Kim Huval at CarePatrol by the administrator of one of the facilities we were leaving.

Kim, immediately went to work and made some recommendations as to the type of facility that would likely work best for my wife’s situation.   THIS IS IMPORTANT.  I didn’t take her advice based on her industry knowledge and years of experience.  SHE WAS GIVING ME GOOD ADVICE, not just trying to place us as part of a service.  However, I continued down a path of selecting facilities based on MY concept of what would be best.  I wish I had taken Kim’s advice sooner!

She did not give up on me when I once again needed assistance! She discussed her specific reasons for me to consider some other types of non-corporate, non-traditional facilities.    My wife is now in facility that she fits into and is doing quite well!

I will recommend Kim Huval and CarePatrol to anyone needing assistance and am more than happy to be a reference to anyone who needs assistance choosing a placement service.
